影片由一宗在森林里发现的命案开始，警方正全力找寻证据去起诉奸杀案疑凶黄柏木(周俊伟饰)，希望将他定罪，藉以安抚市民对树林的忧虑，但证据却未能掌握。夏松梓(舒淇饰)女探长新上任，接手柏木一案。松梓深信柏木只是其中一个凶手，树林多宗自杀失踪背后，内里一定有文章。另一方面，她还要受到上头压力，催促尽快破案，因此她决定进入案发的树林调查。

澍海(郑伊健饰)是修读高级植物学的博士，他耗尽所有时间和精神，去证明“植物等同生物”的理论，他认为植物都有思想、感情甚至语言。美树(李彩华饰)是澍海的多年女友，从事某电视台节目主持，她在节目中以树林炒作为鬼灵的盘据地，配合传说流言穿凿附会，成功已吸纳了不少观众。她的工作自己与澍海相对，存在着很大的对立点。澍海带同柏木进入案发的树林重组案情，他认为案发当日唯一目击证人便是整个树林！传媒亦闻风而至，美树当然亦不会错过！夏松梓、澍海及美树以不同目的，进入这个鬼祟的森林……
